The story behind the innovation

BasicWare Software was founded in late 1999 by one man with a mission, Andrew T. Strasil. He had a natural interest in computers, but quickly realized much of the software we use in business and everyday life left a lot to be desired. Irritated by clumsy, poorly designed programs, he thought "there's got to be a better way". And so a futuristic thinking, ease-of-use oriented software development company was born.
BasicWare Software’s PCClerk™ was originally developed out of necessity. His family business needed to be computerized, but he felt point of sale products on the market were overpriced and overly complicated. So he set out to design a versatile and powerful business program that still maintained to be simple and user-friendly. He started with only his strong business mind, and little programming knowledge and few of the required tools. Bit by bit, he taught himself how to program computers and how to avoid making the same mistakes so many of his competitors had made. Spending endless hours deep in thought, he then developed a picture in his mind of how the ideal business management program would operate, often scrambling to get his ideas down on paper before they faded. Through his persistent efforts during a period of over six years, an unparalleled point of sale program was born.
The development of PCLabel™ began after an idea was sparked while programming a portion of PCClerk™. A label and barcode generation function was being developed in PCClerk™, and Andrew suddenly recalled frustrations he had personally experienced using other label and envelope printing applications. He immediately realized the potential demand for a time saving, streamlined application such as this and yet another BasicWare Software success story was written.
During the course of his persistence Andrew was fortunate enough to have a number of mentors. Several "took him in", offered advice, and helped him through the "writer's block". Andrew continued soaking up that silicon knowledge like a sponge, always fine tuning his skills. In an ironic twist in mid 2006, he met up with one of his original teachers that showed him the ropes of programming and the two made a pact to develop several more applications in the near future. Andrew feels this chance event is an important one in BasicWare Software's timeline and expects even better things to come in the future. In his own words, "Every good story ends where it began. This is a sign."
